Northwest, and out of Detroit. Right. That was all in your original post, and I remember it, but my brain was temporarily shut down when I posted.

I think the main thing was the flying out of Detroit. Domestic US flights are, I believe, way cheaper than international flights, even between the US and Canada.

Ironically, despite my shorter distance to California, I think that option would have been unavailable to me, simply for lack of a good proximate US city to fly out of. I'm not even convinced that there ARE any airports in Montana.
