It's nighttime, so you can't go very many places. Go everywhere the game will allow you to; it's at an intersection. Make sure to "Examine the area" CONSTANTLY in this game.

Oh, and start making a map immediately - you will be able to pick one up later, but I've found that up until the very end, the map I drew was more helpful than the one you get the next day.
