Ah. That's a great definition. In fact, that would be a "rock love ballad" you're talking about. I think you'd also have to include that a ballad makes a point of telling a complete story rather than some scattered grunts, screams, and other emotional impressions.
Offhand I'd say it usually has a memorable intro, chorus, and a slow solo somewhere. And when a rock band plays it at concerts, everyone holds up their lighters and sways slowly back and forth. Or so my husband says, since I never go to rock concerts, or really listen to normal rock! I only start paying attention when it's a ballad of some sort.
Scorpions: Still Loving You; Winds of Change April Wine: Just Between You and Me Bryan Adams: Anything I Do, I Do It for You Cyndi Lauper: Time After Time Guns 'n' Roses: November Rain (what an ending!) Meat Loaf: I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) REO Speedwagon: Keep On Loving You
You know, these songs and many rock songs have a kind of self-absorbed maudlin quality after a while... The Scorpions ballads hit it off the most with me, more for the music and voice than the actual lyrics.
