Assuming you could get the hot dogs close enough to cook without getting yourself also close enough to cook? I don't know. But in Rotorua, New Zealand, we visited a town build on top of unpredictable natural acid mud pools (not especially bright, those folk) that spewed sulphur fumes everywhere. Amongst the houses and accompanying yards were various random walled off pits of boiling acid and/or mud. Some of the pits were used to cook corn on the cob. The corn was put in a container of some kind, lowered into the billowing sulphur steam, and then, some time later, it's taken out and eaten. I didn't have any of it while I was there, but I assume the people that eat it don't die right off.
