Bah. It's ridiculously easy to prove to yourself the Earth is, if not a complete sphere, at least curved and not totally flat. Go to the ocean somewhere where they have tall-masted ships. Watch one of these ships disappear over the horizon. Notice that the last thing you'll see is the tip of the mast. That'll prove right away that the ship is travelling over a curve.

Like BG said, it's been known since antiquity that the Earth isn't flat. The Greeks knew the world was a sphere. Eratosthenes made a very accurate measurement of Earth's circumerfence in 230 BC. It takes modern ignorance to reach such levels of stupidity. The ancients knew better.
