The Flat Earth Research Society people are very much serious. They honestly believe the Earth is flat, the entire space program is a hoax, nobody has ever been to the south pole (because it doesn't exist), the whole nine yards. Many, but not all, base their beliefs on scripture, saying the Bible says the Earth is flat and so it must be flat and any evidence that contradicts that must necessarily be wrong.

It just goes to show that no belief is so ridiculously wrong that there isn't someone out there who believes it.
