You seem to have missed the point. Sam just said, "Hey, I've got ice cream. I LOVE ice cream, especially this kind. I'm so glad that somebody gave me this ice cream. Still, if someone were to come tomorrow and offer to seat me at a never-ending feast consisting of all the best dishes ever made, I wouldn't complain."

I fail to see how that could possibly be depressing.
