My brother and I recently looked into summer student internships with the CIA. Their employment page is surprisingly informative. As it turned out, there weren't any positions available for students in my course of study, but I certainly would have jumped at the chance had there been one.
As for conventional service, my brother told me to "NEVER, never even consider it" just after he finished Basic Training. I'd serve willingly if drafted, though probably as an engineer.
Back to the CIA employment pages, though, I *had* to read the job description for spies, and it was even better than imagined:
"For the *extraordinary individual* who wants more than just a job, we offer a unique career--a way of life that will challenge the deepest resources of your intelligence, self-reliance, and responsibility. It demands an adventurous spirit, a forceful personality, superior intellectual ability, toughness of mind, and a high degree of personal integrity, courage, and love of country. You will need to deal with fast-moving, ambiguous, and unstructured situations that will test your resourcefulness to the utmost."
