> Can you believe it? I've done an extensive search on the web, and there is not ONE SITE that clearly explains what causes headrushes! I got quite a few today and am wondering if perhaps it's something in my diet? Exercise? Lack of sleep? I'd love to know because they're rather annoying. If anyone has an insight, please feel free to post. Thanks!

I've always thought it was just caused by blood rushing to other parts of your body when you stood up quickly. You'd been in one position, and the sudden change caused your body to go into overdrive to get the blood flowing again.

But there are some things that trigger headrushes more often for me. If I'm in a movie theater (where I'm sitting still for a couple of hours), I have to lean forward, then slowly stand, and then stay in one place for a little while before I start moving. Of course, I never remember this, so I stand up quickly, start moving, and can suddenly see NOTHING at all.

Bathtubs and spas have a similar effect, though it's more drastic. I once passed out when I stood up in the bathtub, and if I go in a hot tub, I have to really fight to keep my balance and my senses. In fact, I don't take baths or use hot tubs unless I absolutely have to, because they make me sick. Queasiness and light-headedness? No thanks.

I've also found that stress causes me to get more headrushes, light-headedness, headaches and queasiness. I'm sure it's all psychological, but it also seems pretty real. I recently had something that stressed me out a lot, and while I was waiting to hear the outcome, I suddenly felt nauseated and nearly passed out. A couple of friends had to find a place for me to sit down so I could put my head down and get some blood to it.

That said, I don't really have any answers for you. I have a feeling all of the things you mentioned contribute to the problem, though it wouldn't hurt to ask a doctor. (This advice from the person who can't stand doctors and had gotten some rather stupid advice from them on occasion.)
