I never knew until recently that the noodlefish actually existed. The noodlefish is a variety of tubefish. Most tubefish live in deep ocean trenches, usually near a source of geo-thermal heat, but noodlefish live on reefs in relatively shallow water.

They spend most of their lives in their noodle-like tubes attached to dead coral. They occasionally move a short distance to improve their chances at catching small organisms that drift along in the current, but when it is time to spawn, they form into large schools and take off for the beach.

Their arrival is timed like the grunion, so that they can come up with the waves at highest tide and spawn. Then one cycle of the moon later, high tides help the newly hatched noodles swim back to sea to find a home on the reef. Not all of them make it because many are scooped up to be used in making noodle soup. Would I lie to you?
