Computer Geek Slips

Fess up. Has anybody out there done anything that you felt like a hopeless geek after doing? I'll get the ball rolling with some things that both Dave and I have done at some point. These are all true. (Dave, you're not mad that I posted this stuff, right?)

(1) Once, while driving down the highway, a sign saying "Exit 10" initially registered with me as "Exit 2," for "10" is the binary representation of "2."

(2) Once Dave's computer screen was dirty. It had ugly streaks and fingerprints on it. He pulled out the windex and cleaned it off. Then he clicked over to the next quadrant of his desktop, thinking he ought to clean all of them.

(3) Once I had a post-it note on my screen. I wanted to see what was underneath it, and my first thought was to click and drag it away with the mouse cursor. For a moment, I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.

(4) After a long night coding, just before I fell asleep, I had a half-dream, half-daydream about C's bracketing structures.

(5) Both Dave and I have, at many times, wished we could grep a book.

(6) Once a friend of mine woke up early in the morning by his clock radio. Subconsciously, he was worried that each time he pressed the snooze button, he was allocating more stack memory and that if he did it too much, he'd cause an overflow error. That same morning, he had the subconscious notion that he should use VI's search command to find his toothbrush.

(7) This same friend of mine has caught himself punctuating his English papers as if they were C code...by putting parentheses around "if" clauses, and so forth.

(8) Once Dave was approaching a red light at a traffic intersection, and his instinct was that if he sped up enough, the doppler shift would change the light back to green.

Anyone else? I know people have geek stories. Confess.
