Pacino is always good. And I can't be the only one interested in seeing how Nolan follows up the brilliant Memento.

I saw this last night (yep, got in for free; connections and friends with connections are good). In a word: Wow. It's not Memento, and I was glad to see that Nolan did not try to make it be one. I'm not always the type to willingly watch two hours of intensity, but I'm glad I did it this time. The characters are good, and Robin Williams did an excellent job, just as he did in Good Will Hunting. I think people too often think of him as a comedy actor, but his dramatic characters are so much better than any others he does.

To conclude a not-so-complete movie review, you know it's a good movie when the people in the theater audibly and visibly react to the movie more than once. (I saw the movie with three guys, and they weren't above reacting, too.)

This was one of the previews shown with Insomnia, and I agree: I have no idea what it's about. It almost looks like it wants to be another League of Their Own, but that guess could be far from true. I don't think I'll see the movie unless it's also free.

Another preview I saw recently. I like Matt Damon, so I'm inclined to be interested in this one.

Yep, this was another preview shown with Insomnia, and I assume they're thinking that Tom Hanks alone will sell the movie. They also made sure to mention American Beauty, so maybe they thought it could make up for the fact that I have absolutely NO IDEA what the movie is about. But maybe their plan worked, because I'm curious enough to think, "Hey, it's a Tom Hanks movie, so it must be worth seeing, right?"

The subject of this movie couldn't be more relevant, and I can't even imagine what thought-provoking things Andrew Niccol (who directs as well as writes) would have to say about it. Moreover, the stars, Al Pacino and Catherine Keener, are eminently reliable.

One more Insomnia preview (hmm, Al Pacino stars in both movies, and his roles appear to be similar), and it's part of the reason why I posted in this thread. While the movie looks like it might be cheesy, the ideas in it fascinated me. I think we will see digital actors in the not-too-distant future, and I want to see how Niccol carries the idea. The Truman Show worked, so that gives me more hope for this one, though it could also get out of hand quite easily.
