Perhaps we have different ideas as to the meaning of "belief" in this case. It seems to me that it is possible for me to know and understand that Jesus is personally offering me salvation and still not take it. I believe that there's more that I need to do to be able to accept it than simply believe that it is being offered and that it comes only from God, not my efforts. Unfortunately, and I think we've probably reached an area where we simply aren't going to agree, it doesn't seem to me that there's one ingredient which alone will ensure acceptance of salvation, or any whose absence will prevent it (except maybe for something like a complete lack of human compassion).
