On a side note, would you believe I didn't even know that such a thing as a dental hygienist existed until a couple years ago? You see, the dentist we went to growing up had a very small office, and it was just him and his secretary. He didn't have a hygienist. When my wife and I were first married, and setting up our first appointment with a new dentist, she told me about hygienists and I was quite sure that they must be a "New England thing" and that we "didn't have them here in Ohio." Boy was I surprised.
