Although I didn't like Episode 1 taken as a whole, it had one redeeming feature to me which is one of the two reasons I'll be seeing Episode 2. Namely, Ewan McGregor. His acting skills absolutely *glowed* through the limited use the film made of his character. I was particularly impressed by his voice. It was so much more than merely practising a particular accent -- he wasn't just speaking in Sir Alec Guinness's accent, he was speaking in Sir Alec Guinness's VOICE. I have never seen something like this attempted before in a movie, and it may sound like an odd thing to notice, but I loved it. I hear McGregor gets a lot more mileage in Episode 2, and I have read several reviews which mention how Ewan Kenobi is practically turning into Alec Kenobi before our eyes.
The other reason I'll be going to Attack of the Clones is because I want to see the truckloads of NZ actors who are in it. Any movie featuring intergalactic bounty hunters with New Zealand accents is way too much for me to pass up. Temuera Morrison is Jango Fett, Daniel Logan is Boba Fett, Jay Laga'aia is Amidala's bodyguard or something like that, Rena Owen is the voice of something-or-other, Marton Csokas is the voice of something-or-other else, the list is endless.
Oh yeah. And big dumb cool space chase scenes. OK, three reasons. And that last reason is the only reason why I'd bother to see it on the big screen.
