I hear that often about American supermarkets. I've heard stories of people having relatives from foreign countries come here to visit, and when they happen to go shopping somewhere, the foreign relatives are awestruck by our supermarkets. I know one guy whose relatives started taking pictures of the inside of the store, and they just could not believe how much food we had availble, how many different kinds of food, and how many different brands of the kinds of foods we have.
I've also read books about the Cold War that one way the US Government would convince Russians to defect to the US would be to take them and show them our stores. Often times, our supermarkets are what made up the minds of these people to defect from the Soviet Union.
