All through my childhood, I'd hear peanut butter and jelly sandwiches metioned on American TV/films, but hadn't figured out that American Jelly and British Jelly are very different things. I still immediatly think of British jelly, even though I can parse words like "pants" properly when Americans say them. I wonder why that is.
