Speaking of obscure movies, one of my favorites is "The Man of the Desert", filmed sometime in the 1920's. I got to see it a couple of months ago, when a traveling lecturer on the Grat Dalton Gang came to our community center and showed it. It stars one of the Dalton brothers...what was his first name...argh... It's silent, and is absolutely HILARIOUS, mainly because it's not supposed to be. The heroine's name is Oasis Wells (*groan*), and she wears this awful Mexican peasant dress (though she is a perfect little '20's girl) and apparently spends the entirety of her time making bread outside an adobe hut while her "weakling brother" (that's how the movie said it) sits on a bench and watches. The sheriff of the nearby town has an unbelieveably black moustache and is evil. (Yes, he has a black cowboy hat, too.) He is in love with Oasis and comes to her hut to try to make a pass at her, but this skinny little woman gives him a clumsy push and he jumps back on his horse and rides away. To get even with her for rejecting him, he gets her brother into a poker game where the brother loses everything (yeah, that's how to make her love you), so Oasis goes out to find the Desert Man (_____ Dalton). He's part Zorro, part Lone Ranger. Of course, he wears a white hat. What I love about that scene is that Oasis changes into a GREAT 1920's cowgirl outfit, but then inexpicably changes back into her cotton shift once the scene is over!

Anyway, Dalton whups the sheriff and his cronies and gets the girl, all in under an hour.
