Online journal phenomenon posted by Brunnen-G on Monday, April 22, 2002, at 05:43:11:
I have a LiveJournal. I mostly use it for transient thoughts and occasional little updates about my life. It's mostly so that I can tell people things without having to tell the story thirty times or telling a dozen different people "I just updated my website! Check it out!!!!!!" Most of my entries are intended for closer friends of mine, most of whom have a LiveJournal already (and thus are elligible to read private entries). It's also a way for people to respond to it easily without having to send an E-mail (which, especially if you have a web-based account, can be a hassle). I wouldn't put something I didn't want anyone else to know in it, but if there's something I want a couple of my closer friends to know, but not anyone else, I can set it as a restricted entry, and that way I can make sure that they all get the same version. Plus, if I realize I forgot something or I made a mistake, I can go back and correct it, which is not something easily doable in IM conversations.
