I used to keep (last year) a 'secret diary' when I had things I needed to work out that I DIDN'T want people to see. This year, I no longer need to worry about that, having broken the secret that I was keeping (and it was my own secret, so I wasn't breaking anyone's confidence or something). I've made a few of those entries viewable to the one person who at that point needed to see them. Not ALL of them, but the most important ones. When writing them, I did not think I would ever be able to show them to anyone, and when I finally did so, I added my own commentary in the margins.

Currently I don't keep any 'secret diaries' aside from my prayer journal, which I use to write my prayers in each night. It helps keep me focused. I don't write in that with an eye to showing it to anyone ever, since it's just a recording of 'conversations' between myself and my God, but I suppose I wouldn't mind letting very close friends who I trust read it.

My life experiences I don't think of in this way - but my emotions become more tangible and easier to deal with when I write them out, even if I'm the only one who reads them. Yup.
