No, you're making perfect sense. I think it can be summed up best with this, which I read in a book called "The Day They Banned The Book" in which an American high school considers quite seriously banning Huckleberry Finn. About halfway through, somebody says this:

"You show me a book that offends nobody, and I will show you a book that nobody in their entire life has ever voluntarily read."
