Gah. Yes. I've heard this before. I am probably one of them; most jalapenos cause me to nearly writhe in pain (Picture a tongue, writhing in pain =)) and then I can't taste anything for the rest of the day. The next day, I'm still feeling the sting of the jalapeno and my sense of taste is still dulled. Saltine crackers taste like dirt to me and I can hardly stand them except with soup. A tiny bit of clove powder on my tongue makes it sting like crazy (cloves, I'm told, aren't spicy at all? Is this so?). I can TASTE the difference between PET and HDPE plastic (something that still amazes my friends, who lick plastic bags for all they're worth, but they still can't taste the yummy tastiness of High Density Polyethylene, MMMMMmmmm. ;-)). My aunt has the same problem; she can taste anthing.
