...and that's the problem. People always, always argue with history. That needs to stop. What counts is the current state of things: a few (not two or three, there are a good few thousand, but they're not the majority) madmen on the Palestinian side are bent on destroying Israel and vainly work on this purpose by blowing themselves up, and those that are responsible in Israel retaliate (sometimes too strongly) and also continue taking more land. On either side, many people generalize their view of the other and more or less openly support war.
And here follows my personal opinion: the underlying issue is nationalism, by which I mean distinguishing between Us and Them by cultural or ethnic origin. I even go as far as saying that this is almost always the problem in any conflict involving larger amounts of people, and if it isn't, then those that are in control will try to construct such a context in order to get more support from their people. If the world goes on working that way, wars or at least unfriendly diplomatic relations will continue to crop up everywhere around the world. Back to the beginning: people need to stop using history as an argument for specific issues. It's just a more sophisticated way of attacking people because their great-grandfather insulted yours. We need to be more ready to forgive, no matter if across weeks, years or millenia.
