I'm po. I would never be able to go if it cost $35000. It's going to be hard enough with $3000.
I guess times have changed. I started college with $140. Registration cost $40 a quarter, and a room in the dorm was $32. There was no tuition because it was a state school. Books set me back $30, which left me with about $35. That doesn't quite add up because I spent a little for a new razor, shaving cream, soap, toothpaste, etc. I moved in with two sheets, an old Army blanket, a pillow and a few clothes in a suitcase. My sister gave me a loose leaf notebook with some paper. By eating only two meals a day, I managed to stay alive until the end of the quarter. Over Christmas break, I got a job at the local daily paper at 75 cents an hour. I worked three hours a day plus covering ball games at night. Some weeks I would clear $20 after taxes. I got a raise when Congress increased minimum wage to a dollar an hour. That job kept me in school until I graduated in 1958. Howard
