"The Negotiator," one of the best action movies in recent years, was almost ruined for me by that ridiculous trailer. The trailer for the upcoming "The Iron Giant" seems like the editors had a checklist of spoilers to make a point to reveal. It's absurd. I applaud Warner Brothers' marketing decisions on "Eyes Wide Shut," even if the non-spoiler marketing was due less to reasons of artistic integrity and more because the marketing department didn't know how to sell it. (I suspect the real reason is a generous helping of both.)

I don't want to know all the details, or any spoilers, or anything like that; what I'm after is a basic overview, rather like what you'd see on the back cover of a book.

Exactly. I wholeheartedly agree.

Did anyone see "Arlington Road?" When we realize that the neighbor was the terrorist, it should have been a *bit* of a surprise. I mean, I realize it wasn't one of those surprizes, as what's-his-face who played the neighbor is usually a creepy bad guy, but it would have been nice to find out at the end that what's-his-face-good-guy-actor wasn't really crazy after all, even though you know it anyways. That trailor wasn't exactly subtle about it, either. It really blew the whole movie. Well, that, an overdone ending, and bad writing.
