When I was that guy, we weren't *allowed* to accept tips. It wasn't a service we provided normally, but when it was requested or when it was offered (usually to a little old lady with fifteen bags full of cat food) it was considered a serivce of the store and part of our job.

Of course, I got paid a "fair" wage to do that job, not two bucks below minimum.
