Why is a dwarf considered a fantasy creature?

Dwarves really do exist, unlike unicorns and centuars.

Now if you want to include them in the list of
"Common Characters in Fantasy Stories"
(along with other types like princesses and poor-but-honest-lads), well, that would be okay.
