> Not a good idea. I was on my way to work one morning minding my own business AND doing the speed limit. Both lanes on 385 south were pretty full. The person behind me decides I'm not going fast enough, so he/she gets right on my butt. I gently tap the brakes more or less to ask them to stop...BAD idea! This person flies past me as soon as they are able to, jumps over in front of me and hits the brakes. It didn't cause and accident but it did scare me to death.
I'm sorry that happened to you. And you're probably right, but I wouldn't change my entire driving habits based on one bad experience with a crazy lunatic who shouldn't have ever been allowed to hold a driver's license in the first place.
Actually, when being chased by a tailgater, the thing I most often choose to do is simply ignore them. I'll pretend they're not there, and maintain my speed. I always make sure there is adequate distance between me and the car or truck I'm passing before I get back to the right, so usually the tailgater whizzes out from behind me and passes me on the right. It irks me, but there's not much I can do about it except hope that a cop down the road will catch 'em. So far it's never happened though.
