I agree that current generations aren't responsible for what their ancestors did. Further, I believe that my progeny shouldn't suffer for my actions. But the two related questions I have are: 1) Do my progeny have a right to benefit from my actions, be the actions good or bad? 2) At what point can I throw my own actions into the category of history and say that I'm not responsible for them?
To set float my feelings, it seems that it's somewhat wrong to have the land, monies, and advantages that one's ancestors help afford, while throwing away the package of guilt. There are alot more nuances to this, unfortunately, my job's not going to let me have the time to explore them all right now.
On the second question, being almost a decade removed from graduating high school, I tend to wonder if I should feel guilty about the harms I did to people back then (and, conversely, hold a grudge against those who harmed me.) It seems like I was a different person back then, almost the equivalent of my own ancestor. But it also seems that it's my responsibility to forgive those who harmed me and to make right to those that I've harmed.
Input?
Euge'darn, gotta run'ne
