I read an article somewhere that said Dick Van Dyke modeled his comedic style after Stan Laurel. If you watch re-runs of the old Dick Van Dyke Show, you see him doing Stan Laurel's moves. I never noticed it until I read that article.

Another bit of Laurel trivia: In one movie, Laurel played his own alter-ego in the form of a stuffy English gentleman. He played it to perfection. The critics of the day were amazed. They said they knew he was a comic, but never dreamed he was a great actor. I've seen those scenes and I agree. The man was a genius.
