I agree with the idea that stable marriages are a good influence and a goal to be worked toward, but there are plenty of single parent households that do just fine, too (my father's was one), And, I think that goal is not worth 300 million tax dollars. That money could be used to do any number of more important things, such as A) Fight terrorism or B) Even better, stimulate the economy by giving the money back to the people who earned it with tax cuts.
If this kind of spending is the new direction of the Republican party, I think it can expect to lose some of the supporters its gained in the apst months.
Just a remark on the welfare thing... President Bush and his aides certainly don't "know nothing" about welfare... The economic effects of welfare and running welfare are well known to politicians. They may have never been there, on welfare, but most welfare recipiants have never been in a situation where the financial state of a country is under their influence.
