I was watching Good Morning, America, this morning and there was a lady on there billed as a "writer-at-large." Does that mean she has excaped from somewhere? Maybe she busted out of a writer's block. . . er, make that a writer's cell block.
Way back when I was a journalist of some sort, a writer who was trying to sell stories, (news or features) was called a "free-lance writer." We had some who dropped by the office of the Daily News Journal from time to time and on a few occasions, I remember seeing their by-line in the paper. I always wondered how much they got for that stuff. I was getting minimum wage for mine.
I couldn't complain. That little job put me through four years of college. Actually, four years took five years, but that's another story. Howard
