Well, I have to admit that I predict a lot less of me screaming at the tv as Oscars are given away to the undeserving this year. For me, this year, there are too many films for most categories, and, in most cases I think good choices were made.
I do wish Memento was up for more though, and that Amelie was in some of the bigger categories. To me, either of those or Shrek would be a better choice than A Beautiful Mind for Best Picture(a movie where my father ended up still thinking it was a spy movie...although I have to admit that's probably him rather than the movie).
I also agree that Luhrmann should have been up for direction, as well as Steve Buscemi as Supporting Actor for Ghost World (Ethan Hawke? Where did he come from?). Loved Bridget Jones, but I think if anything, that it should have been nominated for adapted screenplay rather than actress. However, I'm not sure who else I would put in that slot, not having seen any of the other films that were BigonBuzz for this category.
However, now I get to go out and start renting the ones that are available so that I will have full ammunition and arguments ready come March 24th. *grin* It's my favorite time of year.
