I believe the best strategy is to explore one quadrant at a time until you find 4 level boosters (even if you are frustrated at first, find each quadrant's booster before you move on to the next). Then for each quadrant, estimate what percentage of the open squares you explored. Starting with the quadrant with the smallest percentage, explore it COMPLETELY in the hopes of finding the level 5 booster (even though your chances of finding it in that quadrant decrease as you cover more of it, your chances PER SQUARE remain unchanged). Then proceed to the quadrant with the next highest percentage of covered squares, and so on.... It seems that you find the extra booster in the quadrant with the lowest percentage about 40-50% of the time.
Sometimes you can get lucky and find the extra booster before you find one in each quadrant. For example , you sometimes find one in the 9th row of the grid, which doesn't comprise any part of the 4 quadrants. Another scenario is finding a booster in one quadrant, and then "accidentally" finding a 2nd before you can get out. Then you know automatically that you found the extra booster, and can usually get to level 5 quickly. This helps get a really good score.
