When I moved to Texas several years ago (back when I still called it POP and Texans called everything "coke," as in "What kind of coke do you want?" "Dr. Pepper, please.") a new friend from New York opened a pizza joint in the mall where we worked. I still remember his shock at being told he needed to carry Dr. Pepper (it's bottled in Dallas) in his fountain. On the East Coast, it was just a novelty drink that wasn't commonly available in restaurants. In Texas, it's at least as common as Coke or Pepsi.

In California, Dr. Pepper (or at least its passable imitation, Mr. Pibb) is commonly available at fast food joints, but not in sit down restaurants. I'm thankful for the little things.
