I don't know whether anyone outside the UK knew this, but the 27th of January was designated "Holocaust Memorial Day" here a year ago. I looked this up because I had the horrible feeling it was on the 21st, which would have had pretty nasty connotations, here in the UK at least. (I mean, to go up to someone on Holocaust Memorial Day and say "Happy Stupid Day!" would not be exactly tactful.) Anyway, in case you didn't know about it, here's the link to its official page.
