What can people do about it? Start up a group that hangs around beaches saying to hatching baby turtles "No! Don't go into the light! DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT!"

Actually, I believe some people do this, all joking aside. I know from when I worked at the dive magazine that turtle conservation groups have built light walls at turtle breeding areas.

Personally, I think you're right. States should spend more money on schools, because education is the only way we can stop this tragic rush of young and impressionable turtles towards the casinos from the *very moment they are born*. It's really a mercy that so many of them are run over on the highway by blinded drivers before they even make it to the blackjack tables.
