What you really, really want posted by Brunnen-G on Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at 03:40:48:
Many things which I want have already been mentioned, or not, and will be repeated here as well, or not.
Virtually everything which I want to do is something that is within my grasp. Either that means that I will be a happy fellow if or when I do accomplish them or that I need to develop some loftier goals.
I will learn several specific languages: Spanish, Chinese, and sign language. Others possibilities may be Japanese, Arabic, French, or Nahuatl, but rather than becoming fluent with more beyond the first three, I'll probably just pick up a little bit from a very wide variety of languages.
A goodly number of ideas for businesses find me irregularly. Some of them I actually plan to make reality. They don't need to make vast quantities of money (though I'm certainly not opposed) so much as not go bankrupt. The ideas are secret, naturally, to prevent other folk from implementing them first; there's no need to help the competition.
Seeing the whole wide world doesn't appeal to me. However, if I could, I would like to live in several different parts of the world for brief periods of time over a span of a few years. Yes, that would make me a vagabond, but I'd be a decently-groomed, non-stinking, and eager-to-work vagabond. Doubtless it would be a very difficult few years, which is all the more reason to do it while young.
It will be good to earn my degree. I haven't decided how far to go with schooling; while a Ph.D. would be exemplary, it isn't actually necessary for my field. There are countless things to learn. I'll scratch the surface as deeply as possible.
I want to compose a symphony (of sorts) but not have it played. I want to write a novel but not publish it. I want to script a movie but not make it. I don't know why.
BOAT requires a great deal more coding. Don't groan--it's not a behemoth.
Memorization is unusually challenging for me, so I plan to memorize extensive portions of scripture, and perhaps even some sections of secular classics.
I will work toward being able to run a five minute mile.
I hope that I will be known as a generous person with what I will have had.
Also, include all that stuff about owning a castle and huge tracts of land, marrying the right person, raising a family, winning the lottery, playing an assortment of instruments, finally winning a game of RISK against my roommate, inventing a mouse that doesn't need a mousetrap, discovering Atlantis, to see all these bad movies that RinkyDinks talk about but the local video stores don't carry, and so on.
