A statue serves a symbol. It's not meant to be a historical representation of a specific moment in time. A little artistic liscense is allowed. I think that if the builder wishes to include more than one race in his celebration of heroism-and there were blacks and Hispanics involved in the rescue, and many who died-so that's perfectly appropriate.

If someone had wanted to change the newspaper photo, a history book, or something else to make it more diverse-I would have problems with that too. But for a work of art, there's a bit more liberty you can take. I see nothing wrong with having the monument serve as a more universal momento to the heroism of the tragedy.
