Okay, to me, the nth century starts with the year 100(n-1)+1 and ends with 100n, except in B.C.(or B.C.E.) years, in which case "starts" and "ends" are transposed. The 100ns (where s is used as a plural, but n is still a variable) starts with the year 100n and ends with the year 100(n+1)-1. Or it could start with 100n and end with 100n+9, depending on context.

Incidentally, the 1st century B.C(or B.C.E.) comes directly before the 1st century A.D.(or C.E.).
