After a second viewing Sunday night, i found myself mostly bothered by the same little things that bothered me the first time (though the movie is unquestionably stunning). Here's my own short list:
Isuldur's murder/Gollum's discovery of the ring: I know time passes there so the levels could change, but Isuldur sinks into some deep water. The ring, with all its power, could hardly be visible through all that pond water.
The Nazgul chase scenes: First, the hobbits running to the ferry--i'm sorry, but that's a long time for barefooted short guys to be outrunning a spirit on a horse. At least insert some woodsy obstacles to slow him down. Second, Arwen being chased to the river/stream/whatever--On close-ups, they're beside/ahead of her, on overheads, they're ten feet back. Hold a shot long enough to show them catching up or falling back, not so many angles jumping around.
Sauron: Yeah, the mase swipes were cool, but the evil guy himself looked cartoony and out of place to me. That's just a silly personal impression (as opposed to all these other well-reasoned critiques i'm sharing).
The Horn of Gondor: Call me unimaginative, but i wanted to see it get broken/cloven/whatever.
Too many close-up shots of the Ring in someone's hand: there were too many shots of the Ring in someone's hand.
That's really my only complaints. Most everything else (e.g., Boromir and Aragorn looking alike) was cleared up for me on the second viewing. All the stuff that wowed me has been mentioned in other posts so i won't reiterate. But the sizing of hobbits and dwarves to elves and men was the most impressive effect.
