A similar embarrassing error happened to our insurance company recently. They sent us a letter (an actual printed one, not an email) about the fact that I'm turning 18 in "a few weeks" (more than three months at the time, actually) and that my father had better pay them more money, because otherwise it might just happen that I have a tragic accident. Or something. What's similar to your story is that someone in the company apparently messed up my first name in a pretty unique way. My name is "Jakob", and people often spell it "Jacob" for some reason; but someone had apparently not slept enough before facing the difficult task of correctly understanding and writing down people's names, especially the tricky first names that are spelled COMPLETELY REGULARLY. I cannot even begin to guess what made them spell the name "Jakop", except for the pronounciation. Jakop! That doesn't look like a real name to *me*. It's not even that much of a rare name. The 13th grade Greek course at my school (actually there's two because of the German school system) consists of two people: myself and another person called Jacob. To compare it to English names: it's like spelling the name George as "Jorj".
