Funny, I thought the same thing. Or rather, as I thought about what my answer to the question should be, I thought, "What exactly does the phrase, 'Meaning of Life' *mean*?"
So, I went to m-w.com and looked up the word "meaning." And guess what?
1 a : to have in the mind as a purpose 1 b : to design for or destine to a specified purpose or future 2 : to serve or intend to convey, show, or indicate
So really, when someone asks you, "What is the meaning of life," they probably mean "What is the *purpose* of life."
(BTW: I think that such a question *assumes* the existance of a Creator. For there to be an ultimate purpose or intention of life, there would *have* to be Someone who created it with that purpose in mind. If our entire existance was accidental, a product of blind chance, then how could there be any "ultimate" purpose behind it?)
