I've never had my name mangled aside from a.) having my first name mispronouced a little (it's Andrea, an-dree-a, not an-dray-uh or ahn-dree-a.) and b.) having people not believe my name.

Yup. My last name is Smith (don't stalk me, if you can find me amidst the skillions of others :P) and it's SO commonly used as a generic... that I've had people not believe that's my last name before.

Them: What's your name?
Me: Andrea Smith.
Them: *chuckle* Oh yeah, my last name's Smith too... what is it really?
Me: Uh, Smith.
Them: Oh... really?
Me: Yes, really.
