Well, technically that's 1 billion dollars, but yes, that is a terribly frustrating margin. I noted that when I ran my script to generate the final day's prices. That last day was a tough one -- you and missinlnk both lost money, as I recall, and I broke dead even.

How can you do better? Really, coming in second only one (billion) dollars short is doing a great job, and I don't know that I could tell you anything you don't already do. Buy low, sell high. Buy sites that are more popular on the weekend on Thursday or Friday, and buy sites that are more popular during the week on Monday. All that is stated in different terms in the strategy guide anyway. You never missed a day logging in to trade, so you've got that one down.
