Feeling stupid- Stuck early in GOA

Ok, I'm looking through these posts and I'm seeing lots of stuff about a Broken Free Trial Sword of Failure and a ticket. Since everyone seems to have these, I feel rather dumb not being able to find them. I figure I have to do something a bunch of times to help me, but I don't know what. Here's what I have, if it'll help...

Diving Mask
Dead Fish
Food Rations
Magic Armor of Magic
Key of Questioning
Pick
Life Preserver

I'll appreciate any comment.
