> Middle names are underrated. Most people only go by their first and last names. Most forms only ask for your middle initial at the most. Some people even go without middle names entirely. Clearly, there's something wrong with the world when people are named things like Richard [no middle name] Thorndyke.

Even when I use false names on the Internet I use middle names (Morris Cecil Glalet). Even my Message Forum name has my middle name in it, albeit in the place of the last name.

What exactly is the point of a middle name, though? The first name is handy for just addressing someone quickly, like "Hey, John". The last name is useful when you have lots of names. If you have three Johns in the room and you say "Would John please come here?", they don't know which John. But the middle name is pretty useless. Also, middle names tend to be wierd. "John Doe" sounds OK. "John Mekdelaby Doe" sounds odd.
