I've had contacts for a little over a year now, and glasses for about 5 years before that. I love my contacts. I usually shower in them if they're in, but if they aren't, like in the morning, then I don't.

My mom just got hard contacts after a kazillion years of wearing glasses, since she was a kid. They are bifocal. Apparently bifocal contacts are a new, recent thing, and her eye doctor suggested it. The contacts are weighted, so they are always in the same place, therefore putting the correct prescription in the right place. She loves them, because she can look in any direction and see clearly. It sounds great to me if you need bifocals, but she had a big fiasco the other day because of some dust, and because of that, I prefer my soft lenses.
