I had to read "The Pearl" for English class, and I can tell you that Kino doesn't get killed. It was Coyotito, their son. Plus, he throws the pearl back at the end.

Here's a rewritten BAM:
Kino and Juana

Our son is sick. Can you help him?

Doctor

Eat my doorstep, penniless bum.

(Kino finds a pearl.)

Juan Tomas

That pearl is evil! Evil, I tells ya!

Juana

Now that we're rich, I've lost my spirituality.

Kino

Yeah, and our son's been killed. Let's chuck it back into the ocean.
