My dad wants me to learn to drive a manual for that very reason. I want to learn because I want to be able to drive anything, but I'd prefer learning in something other than his '67 International. The gas pedal is temperamental (either it's idling or on full bore unless you're careful), the driver's side door doesn't open from the inside (you have to roll down the window, push the button on the outside, and pop the door open with your elbow), the steering is squirrely, and the thing rides like a buckboard and has 100 thousand miles on it. All in all, it's the perfect thing to learn in.
